Meet Me at Midnight

Taylor Swift’s 10th studio album is, in my opinion, her best yet. (And I’ve been following her career since her debut album when we were 16!) I’ve had “Midnights” on repeat for a week now and am absolutely in love with it. For fans who haven’t listened to it yet, it almost has a feeling of her albums “1989,” “Reputation” and “Folklore.” It has the sensational pop feeling that her debut pop album (‘1989’) has, the bad ass attitude of “Reputation” and the new era musical experimentation of “Folklore.” Another bonus of “Midnights” is that there IS NOT one song that I have had to hit skip on! That is a rare thing for an album. Usually there is at least one or two songs that I can’t stand and have to skip, but like I said I’ve been listening to it on repeat since it came out and have yet to find a song that I don’t like.

Having listened to the album so many times of course I have a few favorites. My top song on the album is “Vigilante Shit.” It’s a song about revenge and standing up for one’s self. “Don’t get sad, get even. So on the weekends I don’t dress for friends, lately I’ve been dressing for revenge.” Of course, she picked a good song to be the album’s first single: “Anti-Hero.” The song and the video are amazing. It deals with issues of self-loathing and self-doubt. It also addresses mental illness, which is a topic that needs to be addressed more often. “It’s me. Hi. I’m the problem, it’s me.” “I should not be left to my own devices. They come with prices and vices. I end up in crisis.” I can relate to those lyrics because at times I feel like I’m getting in my own way because I’m in my head too much. It’s hard to get out my head and I hear the negative voices shouting over the positive ones. It’s something that’s hard to deal with, so it’s nice to hear that I’m not alone in that. And not to be out done is the album’s second single, “Bejeweled.” Again a great song and beautiful music video. This song talks about making a comeback when people doubt you and shinning in the lights around you. “Best believe I’m still bejeweled when I walk in the room I can still make the whole place shimmer.” Love the meaning behind that lyric—that matter how far down you get, you can always make a comeback. You will always be able to shine. There are so many good songs on “Midnights: 3 AM edition” (That’s the version I got. It has 7 additional tracks, so if you haven’t gotten it yet, I recommend that version.) (And yes, I’m listening to it right now! Major Swiftie if you haven’t noticed LOL) Hope you’ll take a chance on the album even if you aren’t a big fan of Taylor. XOXO Rhiannon
